Interactive journal, reading, writing for St. Patrick's Day

http://teach123school.blogspot.com/

St. Patrick's Day is right around the corner.  Have you made plans for it yet?

I added a new Sentence Shuffle Trio packet that is a fun way to add a little seasonal fun to your lessons.  Plus, it is a easy way to add a non-fiction/informational text lesson to your weekly plans.

There are 3 different interactive journal printables that are included.

Students will research St. Patrick's Day traditions and then record their answers on the first one.  You can set this up as a computer center, iPads, take your class to the computer lab, or set up a tub of books that students use to find the answers.

As an extension, you can let them use this as a spring board to write a story.

The second, interactive journal printable is also about researching.  Students will be learning new facts about shamrocks.  We see shamrocks this time of year, but what do we really know about this plant?  By the end of this lesson, students will be able to tell you five facts about shamrocks.

Extension:  Let your students write about their findings in a report.

Sentence Shuffle Centers are a great way to strengthen your students' fluency skills.  Perfect for those of you who give the Dibels test.  Students will be making real and nonsense sentences.  There are 3 writing assignments included with this.

Teachers with small classrooms may want to set this up as a file folder activity.

This works great with your early finishers!

Depending on the age of your students, if they are old enough to use a stapler, you can set this up as a reading center.  Let them make their book and then read it.  They will also illustrate it.

Tell your students to bring it when you meet with them for reading group.

Then send it home for homework.

This is a preview of one of the pages from this packet.
