If you are feeling a little stressed and are wondering where you will find the time to fit everything in, I have one word for you . . . integrate. The more I integrated my curriculum, the more time I felt like I had in my schedule. You would be surprised at what subjects you can integrate when you have the world's worst schedule. One year I was teaching science: animal facts and handwriting at the same time. I was trying to squeeze in every little minute I could.
If you have a crazy schedule this year, you should check out my money packet. My friend, Fern, and I co-authored it. Fern wrote the math lessons and I wrote the literacy ones. They are both sold in this packet. Here is a sneak peek at some of the literacy activities:
Students will read money themed sentences during small group time. Then they will take home this page for extra practice. Parents will rate their child's fluency at the bottom of the page. There is a parent's note that explains the homework assignment. This is good practice if you give the Dibels test.
This is a mini-version of my Sentence Shuffle centers. Students will practice their reading fluency skills with this center. It is a great activity for your early finishers.
This combines math and language arts. There are words about money on some of the pages. There are also blank pages so students can find the value of their spelling words, vocabulary words, or word wall words.
Set up a book center with books about money. There is a book list that includes reading levels plus some printables that can be used after the students read their book.
Student will trace, write, and draw about the words on the page.
